The sky will now be blue(although it can appear a bit bugged) until you restart PCSX2. Using hardware mode is faster and fixes some of the mi ssing blur effects, but it also blurs and adds ghost effect to other parts (car rear bumpers). The game indeed looks a bit darker that the original, and textures might sometimes flicker. Mostly 60 fps with occasional stutters, completely playable from start to finish. Only emulation issue to speak of is the black sky - this can sometimes be fixed by pressing F9 twice to toggle software rendering off and then back on again.
